The Divided Self- by Mark Palermo

a poem by Mark Palermo

All I can say is this:
I'm glad I'm not like the others-
the harlots,
the fornicators,
and the godless Pagan masses.

All I can say is this:
I'm sure glad I'm saved
unlike these craven idolators
the sons and daughters
of perdition and calumny.

for I too once lived a wretched life-
committed wicked, filthy acts:
I pity them
and how they live.
Drinking liquor,
smoking, and gambling.
Repent ye onanists, inverts,
and fornicators!
Committers of foul, base acts!

All I can say is this:
I've got a pension plan and dental
and I've got coverage for eternity too
for I have accepted...

Gee,you look nice tonight.
Do you have a boyfriend?
Where was I?
I lost my train of thought.

Oh, yes,
about the filth
and wickedness
and immorality...

Do you come here often?
